Alba's White Truffle Fair

Categories

From October 8th to December 4th, the city will host Alba’s International White Truffle Fair, a key event on the tourist/culinary calendar of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato now celebrating its 92nd edition.

THIS YEAR’S THEME WILL BE SUSTAINABILITY WITH THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH CLIMATE CHANGE
The theme of this edition is ‘Time is up’. In the wake of the last edition, this year the theme of sustainability (environmental, social and economic) and climate change risks will be addressed, as the truffle (Tuber Magnatum Pico) is an indicator of environmental health. This edition approaches the public with a contemporary language, launching an appeal that intercepts the sensitivity of the new generations. Food and wine, tourism and the environment will be the undisputed protagonists. More than just a conventional fair, the event’s strength lies in its ability to offer visitors an action-packed program of cooking demos, performances, experiential tours and art themed events.

THE MARRIAGE BETWEEN GASTRONOMY, ART, MUSIC AND DESIGN IS TRANSLATED
INTO NUMEROUS SECONDARY EVENTS
As per tradition, to anticipate the nine weeks of the Fair, on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd the City of Alba proposes the Weekend of Folklore with the Palio degli Asini and the Joust of the Hundred Towers. Two weeks later, on the weekend of 15th and 16th October, the Baccanale dei Borghi will take place in the squares of the historic town centre where tourists will taste the cuisine of Alba’s historic districts, ready to satisfy the palates of the thousands of arriving gourmets: here, the medieval atmosphere that characterises the town centre can be relived. Once again this year, the appointment with the World Truffle Auction is renewed – it’s an event that over time has managed to reconcile the promotion of the territory’s excellence with solidarity, allocating substantial funds to charitable causes. In connection with the Castle of Grinzane Cavour – home of the Enoteca Regionale Piemontese Cavour – on November 13th Hong Kong, Singapore and Vienna will compete, bidding for the most prestigious lots of selected specimens of the White Truffle of Alba. During the fair, medieval traditions become unmissable events and even children have a chance to have fun at the Alba Truffle Bimbi Pavilion. Under the guidance of expert educators, children can participate in activities, workshops and games in a place where they can learn about nature, the environment, cooking and traditions.
