Assembly: A Modern Tribute to the Baroque

The light sculpture “Assembly” by artist Marinella Senatore will be on display in Piazza dell’Annunziata at the Venaria Reale until January 8th 2023. However, six smaller site-specific light sculptures will still be on display in the Anticamera dei Valletti on the Piano nobile of the Reggia until February 5th 2023.

Inspired by the traditional illuminated architectural structures that were used in open-air public celebrations in Southern Italy from the 15th century onwards, this work evokes Baroque festivities, which changed the appearance of royal residences thanks to ephemeral apparatuses. Light, electric and optical, material and metaphorical, the work by the Italian artist becomes a means of narration and poetic creation, as well as of resistance and cohesion.
