BODY WORLDS is one of the most successful traveling exhibitions in the world. Since 1995 it has attracted more than 54 million visitors to more than 150 cities in America, Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia. The exhibition reveals the human body from the structural to the cellular level through the innovative science of plastination, a technique devised in 1977 at the University of Heidelberg by anatomist Dr. Gunther von Hagens himself and in continuous development. Through this, von Hagens made possible a vision of the inner body through detailed anatomical studies, intricate dissections and aesthetic compositions that serve as a bridge with the visitor toward self-recognition and self-improvement.
Indeed, BODY WORLDS Vital has a scientific, popular and preventive purpose, with the ultimate goal of inspiring everyone to live with vitality and to their fullest potential. With authentic human bodies and compelling multimedia installations, the exhibit illustrates the body in health, suffering and disease, offering a comparison between healthy bodies and bodies that have succumbed to a range of diseases and medical conditions, with the goal of educating the visitor and inspiring them to a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
