In late October-early November, Turin transforms into a huge open-air chocolate shop: CioccolaTò returns, the festival dedicated to the food of the gods, by now a must on the city’s events calendar, a ten-day-long journey of taste, shows and guided tours that involves all the senses and gives emotions with every taste.
The most important event dedicated to chocolate in Piedmont has distant roots in the history of the city of Turin. The streets and squares of the historic center, but also the suburbs, historic establishments, pastry shops, restaurants, for ten days will be transformed into a large stage dedicated to chocolate, with a rich program of events and initiatives that will involve the entire city.
The theme chosen for the 2023 edition is “The Chocolate of Wonders” and is inspired by the article dedicated by Forbes to the city of Turin, called the city of 7 wonders. Many events will be spread throughout the city, including culture, art, entertainment, games, workshops, masterclasses, showcooking… Heart of the event, the central Piazza San Carlo and Via Roma will host national and international excellence and welcome thousands of Italian and foreign visitors.
Not to be missed, the “CioccoCabrio Bus” and “Luci d’Artista,” a journey to learn about places and stories in the city related to Chocolate, the “Royal Snack” in historic cafes or in the cafeterias of the Royal Residences participating in the initiative, and the second edition of “Cioccolatissima” an exhibition spread throughout the city, also in conjunction with Artissima 2023 with themed works.

Turin and chocolate
Turin is the first Italian city where chocolate arrived, thanks to Duke Emanuele Filiberto who brought the precious cocoa beans to court in the 1500s and in 1560, to celebrate the capital’s relocation from Chambery, served the people of Turin a steaming cup of hot chocolate.
Also in Turin, gianduiotto, now a true symbol of the city, was born, an ingenious ploy by master chocolatiers who used hazelnuts to make up for the shortage of cocoa due to the continental blockade imposed by Napoleon. The result: a unique tradition that has made Turin an undisputed chocolate capital.
